Activity Overview

Ganondagan historic site is a great place to visit for the history buffs, the site is the place where once a Native American village flourished in the 17th century, also known as the Seneca village. Ganondagan state historic site is a U.S. national historic landmark and is located in Victor, Ontario County, New York. The Boughton Hill portion of the historic site consists of a longhouse and lush green landscape. The longhouse has been reconstructed to give a glimpse of the life of the Seneca people back in the 17th century. The site also has a visitor center. Visitors can enjoy hiking the self-guided trails on the 600 acres of the historic site. A native American dance and music festival is held every year in the Summer. The hiking trails at the site are open year round.

  • Ganondagan historic site gives you an insight into the history of the native Americans who thrived in the area 300 years ago. Take a look back at their culture, traditions and the history of the destruction of their village.
  • Families can hike the trails for free, hike on the trail of peace, the trail features different plants that were used by the Seneca people for food and medicinal purpose.
  • The Granary trail sheds lights on the history of the attack by the French army that destroyed the village.
  • The visitor center is open May through October, it features many exhibits, it features a 30-minute video describing the construction of the Bark longhouse.
  • The reconstructed Bark longhouse on the site has replicas of the artifacts that belonged to the Seneca people, several families belonging to the same clan used to live in a longhouse.
  • See and explore a variety of native trees and plants of the Ganondagan. Picnic area is available for a family picnic.
