Activity Overview

The Concord Museum is a museum of history located at Lexington Road, Concord, Massachusetts, USA. The museum features a fascinating collection of Thoreau memorabilia. This is one of the oldest and has most valued and treasured collections in the country

Things to Do

  • Start at the Family Station to find our new Family Trail guide, scavenger hunts, and drawing materials to bring along:
  • If you're bringing folks to Concord with little knowledge of the area and its historical importance, this is the perfect introduction to the revolutionary history of the town. This is a good starting point for setting out to the other area attractions, because it gives a high level overview of the history of the area.
  • The docents do a very nice job explaining details about the artifacts in different key rooms. The self-guided tour allows you to follow your own pace and read as much or as little as catches your eye.
  • One of the The old North Church lanterns is on exhibit (Paul Revere's famous "one if by land, two if by sea").
  • The video (film) at the start is very informative and provides a good orientation with information on Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Louisa May Alcott.
  • There are lots of great artifacts in the lower level: clothing, weapons, deeds for property, arrowheads, bedroom and dinning room etc, and all displays from the colonial times.
  • Visitors can get a glimpse of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s furnished study.
  • There are also interesting photographs of Concord from earlier in the 20th century throughout the museum.

Concord Museum Insider Tips

  • Most of the revolutionary war exhibits are upstairs so if that is your focus, go there first.
  • The guide notes that the tour will take about an hour, but we recommend longer if you are truly going to enjoy everything.
  • The docents are very helpful, friendly and informative as well.
  • Parking at the Concord Museum is somewhat limited.
  • There is an elevator for those who have trouble with stairs.
  • Restrooms are located just beside the front entrance
  • Strollers are welcome
